Longevity in music comes through pushing yourself and expanding the possibilities of your sound. This has never been more true for Copeland on their latest effort Blushing, a collection of 11 new tracks that advance and evolve everything the trio of musicians has done up until now. The band, which originally formed in Lakeland, Florida in 2001, has unveiled six albums, spanning from their 2003’s debut Beneath Medicine Tree to 2016’s Ixora. While they began as a rock band, Copeland’s music has explored multiple genres and pulled in various stylistic influences like electronic and symphonic. In the past the musicians have aptly melded these styles, creating a unique amalgam of sounds. This time they wanted to take each sound and style and push it to its logical extreme.

Brooklyn’s Kaleta & Super Yamba Band are fronted by Afrobeat and Juju veteran Leon Ligan-Majek a.k.a. Kaleta. The singer/guitarist from the West African country of Benin Republic lived his adolescent life in Lagos, Nigeria where Afrobeat was born. Kaleta's guitar chops earned him decades of touring and recording with Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Lauryn Hill and more. Kaleta got his start in the late 70s performing in church and was soon after picked up by iconic Juju master and world music pioneer King Sunny Ade. A few years later Fela Kuti came calling. Kaleta would go on to tour the world playing guitar for the King of Afrobeat in his storied band Egypt 80 through the 1980s and into the 1990s. Now based in New York City, Kaleta has been leading Super Yamba Band since 2017. Their debut album 'Mèdaho,' which was released by California indie label Ubiquity Records, draws on the group’s shared reverence for the raw, psychedelic sounds that captivated Kaleta as a music loving kid in 1970s Benin. Mèdaho means "big brother", "elder" or "teacher" and is dedicated to Kaleta's late brother Ligan-Ozavino Pascal who introduced him to funk and soul music at a very early age. The album was included on Bandcamp's “Best Albums of Summer 2019” list and two of the songs were chosen for the ABC/Hulu series High Fidelity staring Zoe Kravitz. Kaleta and his band have also erupted onto the stages and video screens of major music festivals and music publications across the US. They performed at the historic Apollo Theatre in 2019. They even prompted Action Bronson to stop his own show on VICELAND TV just so he could hear more Yamba. They also performed on Adult Swim's Fishcenter Live show in 2019. In 2017 they rocked Paste Magazine’s Emerging Music Festival in NYC and after that performance Afropop Worldwide fell in love with Kaleta, saying “his James Brown grunts have got to be some of the best in the business!”

This record shouldn’t exist. But somehow after 17 years it does. Tiger Bear Wolf’s third self-titled LP completes a trilogy begun decades ago. This record shouldn’t exist, but It had to... Formed in the summer of 2002, Greensboro NC's Tiger Bear Wolf emerged from the fetid wastes of the Piedmont to make their prints across the United States. The quartet of Jonathan Moore (guitar, vocals), Noah Howard (guitar, vocals), Matt Bostick (bass) and Lawrence Holdsworth (drums) self-released their debut album in 2003 and found refuge alongside fellow truth seekers Hello Sir Records of Athens, GA for their second LP in 2005. Twisted riffs of southern rock, fed on a steady diet of hardcore and psychedelic post-punk all filtered into their raw recordings and pummeling live shows. Relentless touring followed, that both sharpened senses and dwindled accounts, and the four entered a prolific creative period penning music for what would be their third album. Basic tracks for the third Tiger Bear Wolf album were recorded in 2009 between the sweltering heat of a collective performance space and an attic bedroom. It was there the trail went cold. Time and distance intervened, and hard drives gradually succumbed to devilry and malign influences. The record was lost, said to be unrecoverable, and the story was over. Fast forward to 2015, where a savior emerged to retrieve the lost data, almost completely intact from its silicon sarcophagus against moonshot odds. Just for the love and belief that there was something worth saving. In the years that followed, these tracks took on a new life as guitars and voices were recorded in various states and hideaways with members now located in Greensboro, Louisville and Baltimore. What was nearly lost to the sands of time oozed vitality under the careful watch of the band and it’s enablers at both Howard’s Calogera Audio and producer Joel Hatstat’s Athens, GA studio . After 16 years of patient labor, doubt, hope, fellowship, inspiration, invention, revelation, and faith the long lost Tiger Bear Wolf record was somehow completed. The document finds the group at the full breadth of maturity and creativity for the time of its recording, while also fully colored by perspectives and techniques developed in the succeeding years. What we have here is the music as it was meant to be heard, fully realized with power and subtlety, the heart, tongue, and fang.

Conjuring a unique but universal language from that most ubiquitous of instruments, the acoustic guitar, Tony McManus has both extended and transcended the parameters of contemporary Celtic music. Ranked by peers and predecessors alike alongside the guitar world’s all-time greats, his fiendishly dexterous, dazzlingly original playing draws on traditions from the entire Celtic diaspora – Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, Galicia, Asturias, Cape Breton, Quebec – along with still further-ranging flavours, such as jazz and east European music. Long applauded for his uncanny ability to transpose the delicate, complex ornamentation characteristic of traditional bagpipe or fiddle tunes – even the phrasing of a Gaelic song – onto his own six strings, McManus is increasingly being acknowledged also as a pioneering figure in bridging the realms of Celtic music and other guitar genres. Born in 1965 in Paisley, near Glasgow, his surname the legacy of an Irish grandfather, McManus was introduced to traditional music via the family record collection. Having first tried his hand at the fiddle, whistle and mandolin, he took up the guitar aged ten, although subsequent academic inclinations got him halfway through a PhD in maths before the music won out. After rapidly making his name as an unusually fluent and sensitive accompanist, he took the solo plunge with a triumphant main-stage debut on the final night of Glasgow’s inaugural Celtic Connections festival in 1994, supporting Capercaillie in front of a 2500-strong crowd. Over the years, Tony has recorded a catalog of dazzling albums, both solo and with friends, delivering a breadth of artistry and performance which conjures up images and themes of the traditional music of the Celts along with more global influences from far and wide.

Emerging from adversity stronger than ever, the five-piece rock band blends soulful swagger, Motown-infused grooves, and kinetic live energy that turns every show into a dance floor. Frontman Carson Macc’s smooth, Jagger-meets-Harry Styles vocals pair with Nick Barone’s searing guitar riffs, backed by Angelo Coppola (drums), Mike Moody (guitar), and Ian Lukas (bass), creating an infectious sound rooted in Motor City tradition but brimming with fresh vitality. With over a decade of musical partnership between Macc and Barone, Mac Saturn distinguished themselves early with their 2022 EP Until the Money Runs Out, which featured fan favorites “Diamonds” and “Mr. Cadillac,” amassing millions of streams. Their debut full-length, Hard To Sell (2024), produced at Detroit’s legendary Rust Belt Studios, cemented their place in the city’s rock lineage with standout tracks like “Get On The Phone,” “Young In Paradise,” and “Junkie.” Though their album release was overshadowed by the arrest and departure of a former keyboard player, the band chose renewal over retreat, taking 18 months to reflect, rebuild, and sharpen their creative bond. Their sounds—Harris’s emotionally raw small-town narratives and Collins’s surreal, deep, and uniquely catchy songwriting– combined make for a moving night of heartfelt storytelling. You won’t want to miss this collaborative song swap-style show infused with a decade of friendship and mutual musical admiration. Wes Collins writes songs that dig deep and go to uncertain, sometimes scary places. Come for a haunting melody and some intricate fingerpicking and stay for the wit and deep literary intelligence. There is always more to find in a Wes Collins song. A former librarian and avowed record nerd, Wes can imitate the sound of outmoded computer voice simulations. He hasn’t found a way to make that pay yet. Jaimee Harris’s sophomore effort, 'Boomerang Town,' marks a bold step forward for this country-folk-leaning singer-songwriter. It is an arresting, ambitious song-cycle that explores the generational arc of family, the stranglehold of addiction, and the fragile ties that bind us together as Americans.
