“Sparrow is a talented force” ~ Saving Country Music “This is country music as classic as it comes.” ~ Holler Country Sparrow Smith is well loved for her evocative songwriting, tasteful banjo playing, epic accordion chops, and vintage fashion. A longtime member and leader of multiple bands (most notably Resonant Rogues) with Keith Josiah Smith, her husband and collaborator, Sparrow is stepping into the spotlight under her own name with a highly anticipated new album, Carolina Mountains. The Resonant Rogues have an extensive touring history and a national fanbase, over the last couple of years they've opened for the likes of Sierra Ferrell, Benjamin Tod & Lost Dog Street Band, Charlie Parr, Rising Appalachia, Willi Carlisle, & Pete Bernhard of the Devils Makes Three. Folksinger Jodi Jones is determined to boldly dream a better tomorrow in the wake of a broken and weary world. Deeply rooted in the musical traditions of her childhood home in the hills of Western Pennsylvania, her work is a poetic and unflinching account of the beauty and hardship of working class life in America. With defiant wit and innate musicality, she beautifies the bitter truths of our modern age into song as an act of love and solidarity. Art may not save us from our problems, but Jones believes it is crucial to surviving them with our humanity intact.

AbigailDowd, host of this monthly songwriter-series, is a well-traveled troubadour who spreads her majestic gospel of folk music, bringing life back to historical landscapes and lost heritage. Nate Turner has spent the past 20+ years defining “Carolinacana” with his band of brothers, Possum Jenkins. Rowdy, smoky, and with grit in each song, they’ve carried their music throughout the southeast. Together Abigail and Nate write songs about high frequency living, passion and gratitude.
Bigger Weeds "In the 1980s, Beggar Weeds were Jacksonville punks sleeping under trucks, opening for X, recording with Michael Stipe, and skinny-dipping with David Berman. In a new, career-defining reissue, they’re the long-missing link between R.E.M. and Uncle Tupelo." Casey Epstein-Gross, PaSt€ Magazine "Itchy and intense... the ramshackle attitude of The Replacements with a downhome Creedence-like sense of place" MOJO Magazine In the late 1980s, the whole of the Southern alternative scene knew Beggar Weeds as the up-and-coming speed-folk outfit co-signed by Michael Stipe of R.E.M. fame and destined for an imminent break into the big time. They spent most of their time shredding at the legendary venue Einstein A Go-Go and hightailing it from the near-constant fights in Jacksonville’s “blighted area” as fast as their wingtips could take them. Nearly 40 years after the release of their first and only EP, Sure Pants Alot, Beggar Weeds has somehow found themselves poised to take back the spotlight that so cruelly evaded them by barely an inch the first time around. The CADETS As the Cadets began rumbling away in 1995, Cash Carter built his frenetic, thundering drum style around Chuck Smyth’s fast-twitch searing lead rhythms and melodies fertile with nervous energy. Inside those urgent drums and angular chords came their melodic hooks, catchy and strong, laden with unexpected twists. They released a 7”,The Search for the Edible Man (1997), and their first full-length record, The Cadets (1999). As the century drew to a close, the Cadets took on bassist Chad Matheny (Emperor X), a dynamo of creativity and sonic agitation. Also joining was Isaac Bear, brilliantly color washing in the open spaces with expertly placed keys and guitars. The result was a delicately balanced collage of daydreams and found sounds dangling on the hilt of a steel edge. This lineup toured Japan and all along the US east coast until 2007. The Cadets’ music continues to be delightfully peculiar and full of immediacy, arriving at your ear having skidded briskly across the table yet perfectly upright and nary a drop wasted. Their sonic experiments produce songs that possess a rare energy that conjures the early days of rock & roll, sci-fi adventures, and diary entries never intended for the light of day. Lyrics filter larger themes through a tilted and tinted lens of wide-eyed fantastic reverie. Brainwashed spies, mythical chimera, desperate refugees, and jilted lovers all become protagonists and truth tellers.

Listen to Bullard, and you’re listening to a life of barnstorming, hard living, and layers of musical influences. “I’m just a person, just a guy out there having a good time and trying to make sure other people are too,” Bullard says. “I give my time to people, and I think that means a lot to them. I’m genuinely trying to forge relationships and have meaningful interactions with all the fans I meet on the road.” After sharing the stage with Texas mainstays like Shinyribs, Reckless Kelly, Randy Rogers and Cody Jinks, Bullard has come into his own, and these days finds himself headlining clubs and dance halls from coast to coast. For his part, Bullard knows he’s on to something, and he’s enjoying the ride.

Kieran Kane’s seminal work in The O'Kanes and Kane Welch Kaplin, as well as co-founding the independent label Dead Reckoning Records, laid the foundation for the contemporary world of Americana music. A successful solo artist, collaborator, and songwriter (with songs recorded by Alan Jackson, John Prine, Emmylou Harris, and many more), Kieran is a musician's musician: his playing is always understated, always groove-oriented, and always serving the song.If Rayna Gellert seems a preternaturally gifted songwriter, it’s because she’s seen farther into the old songs than most. Growing up in a musical family, she turned to Appalachian old-time music at a young age, becoming a prodigious fiddler and leading a new revival of American stringband music through her work with the acclaimed roots band Uncle Earl. An in-demand collaborator, she has toured and recorded with artists such as Scott Miller, Abigail Washburn, Joachim Cooder, and Robyn Hitchcock.Kieran and Rayna first met, fittingly, at San Francisco's celebrated Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, which led to their cowriting songs for Kieran's solo album Unguarded Moments. They joined forces again for Rayna's 2017 release, Workin's Too Hard (StorySound Records), which they also co-produced. Their first duo album, The Ledges, was released in February of 2018 on Dead Reckoning Records, followed up quickly by 2019’s When the Sun Goes Down.

As John R. Miller began work on his fifth album, The Great Unknowing, he set out to challenge himself both creatively and geographically. Born in the Washington, DC area and raised in West Virginia, Miller has built a reputation as a thoughtful, boundary-pushing voice in alt-country and Americana, drawing from punk, traditional Appalachian music, and less conventional rock influences. For this record, he left his comfort zone behind and traveled to Tulsa to record at the legendary Church Studio, drawn by the city’s deep musical legacy and its ties to artists like J.J. Cale. Co-produced with longtime collaborator Adam Meisterhans, the album was tracked live with a band of Tulsa-based musicians, including Grammy-nominated John Fullbright, under the steady hand of veteran engineers Gary Laney and Mike Prado. The result is Miller’s most ambitious work to date — aspacious, textured collection that expands on the critically praised Depreciated and Heat Comes Down, blending road-worn storytelling, fuzzy atmospheres, and reflections onmovement, memory, and change. Rooted in his West Virginia past yet shaped by constant travel and new collaborations, The Great Unknowing captures an artist trusting the process, embracing risk, and letting the groove lead the way.

Ramsey gained recognition as a key member of Band of Horses contributing to their soaring sound across three studio albums. As a songwriter and guitarist, his intricate playing and introspective lyricism became a defining element of the band's music. With masterful guitar work and a gift for storytelling, Tyler Ramsey continues to carve out his own space in the world of modern folk and indie rock. He has released a series of critically acclaimed albums, including "For the Morning" (2019), which showcased his signature blend of fingerpicked guitar, pedal steel, and atmospheric rock textures, and "New Lost Ages” (2024), produced by Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, The Shins), hailed by Americana UK as “a gentle indie-folk gem". The project captured Ramsey’s evolution as both a songwriter and musician, balancing moments of quiet introspection with grand, sweeping arrangements. Most recently, Tyler Ramsey and My Morning Jacket guitarist Carl Broemel released their full-length recorded debut “Celestun” in January 2026. A marvel of interwoven musicianship and testament to the duo’s singular camaraderie, the album encapsulates the two veteran guitarist-songwriters’ mutual admiration and effortless compatibility as they swap and share nine new songs of dazzling dexterity and grace recorded almost entirely on acoustic guitars No stranger to wanderlust, singer/songwriter Alan Peterson infuses the weight and wonder of longitudes and latitudes into his lyrics and strings. Sincere words parallel the cadence of original music crafting a sound that doesn’t live in one genre.
Buffalo Wabs and the Price Hill Hustle hail from Cincinnati where they have been crafting a sound that is both rooted in tradition and refreshed by modern sensibilities. This four-piece ensemble confronts the raw expanse of American music, fashioning a live music experience more akin to a bygone era of sweltering summer tent revivals and introspective meditations of the human condition.Leaning into the foundation of folk, old-time, and early country and bluegrass, the Hustle has molded a unique blend of these traditions with contemporary influences of psych rock, raucous performative gyrations, and a growing catalogue of personal storytelling to offer a product solely their own. Strong vocal leads from Casey Campbell, the drummer, and Matt ‘Wabs’ Wabnitz, the guitarist, anchor a sonic landscape full of lilting harmonies and powerful counter-melody; and with the multi-instrumental leads of Scott Risner and Bill Baldock abounding the audience is guided through a show that defies most genre labeling and denominations. The Hustle aims to take its’ legions to a churc experience regardless of an individual’s origins; all are welcome and encouraged to embark on the journey. The group’s upcoming recordings and albums expand on the already thick palette by adding new voices and layers, sometimes leading the group to perform as a six-piece ensemble. New music slated for mid-Spring 2026 promises to be both a departure from previous endeavors while holding fast to the core of the passion and performance that has laid the foundation for the past thirteen years, leading to a devoted and committed fanbase across the globe. Jumping from banjos, to fiddles, to electric guitars, to four-part harmonies keeps the audience wholely enthralled with what may be coming next... And with the growing directions of the Hustle, that anticipation will lead folks on a most exciting mission of new music exploration.Born from the tradition of Bluegrass jams and potlucks, The Plate Scrapers -- Derek Kretzer (banjo), Andrew Jordan (guitar), Robbie Mann (fiddle), Jody Mosser (dobro), and Kevin Johnson (bass) -- have been putting in the work and showcasing their love for the genre since 2014. They have since released 4 studio albums, 3 live albums, and have toured relentlessly up and down the east coast and into the midwest. In 2019, they won the Podunk Bluegrass Telefunken Band Contest. They have been featured on WAMU Bluegrass Country Radio, performed as an IBMA Official Showcase artist, and their latest release, Artifacts (2024) had multiple singles on the Airplay Direct bluegrass/folk charts as well as rave reviews from Bluegrass Today.

Rooted in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Blue Cactus cut their teeth on honky-tonk circuit, forging an electrified twang that blends folk, alt-country, and psychedelic rock. Across three critically acclaimed records, the band has built a devoted following throughout the South and beyond, pairing introspective songwriting with blistering guitar work that resonates as powerfully on stage as it does in the studio. Their 2025 album Believer was featured on Bandcamp's Best New Country list and led to appearances at SXSW, Hopscotch Festival's main stage alongside Geese and My Morning Jacket, and PBS's original series Shaped By Sound. From intimate clubs to major festival stages, Blue Cactus is known for performances that forge a genuine connection with audiences wherever they play. Based in Central Virginia and with family roots in South Texas, Ramona and the Holy Smokes represent a new generation of honky tonk music. With powerful female vocals that cover an emotional range from determined to comic to vulnerable, and a talented backing band steeped in classic country and western styles of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, the band exhibits a “clarity and sincerity that bring Patsy Cline to mind” (Nashville Scene, 2025). Fronted by Ramona Martinez, whose songwriting has earned her recognition from Wide Open Country as one of the "15 Latino Artists Shaping Country Music," this Charlottesville, Virginia-based band is rooted in the traditional sounds of country music but unafraid of pushing boundaries and highlighting the connections across border cultures. They have appeared at several Americana festivals including Red Wing Roots (2024), Rooster Walk (2025), and Bristol Rhythm & Roots (2025), and has opened for touring artists like Margo Cilker, Colby Acuff, Willi Carlisle, Redd Volkaert, Joshua Hedley, Donna the Buffalo, and Kashus Culpepper. Their story is one of connection—six musicians from across the country drawn together by a shared devotion to the jam, the groove, and the unpredictable beauty of live improvisational music. Each member carries a different piece of America in their playing: the ocean air of New Jersey, the warmth of North Carolina, the edge of Nevada, the rhythm of New York, and the soul of the Midwest. Together, they create a sound that’s expansive yet intimate—where roots rock collides with improvisation, and every performance feels like a new discovery.
Everything Yes is a North Carolina based jazz-fusion group that grew out of the creative chemistry between friends who first connected in university. What started as late-night jams and throwing wild ideas at each other quickly became a band defined by one simple rule: say “yes.” Every idea, every experiment, every spark of inspiration — if someone brought something to the table, the answer was yes. That spirit eventually became the band’s name. Spearheaded by drummer / YouTuber, Zack Grooves, who has over 440k subscribers, the band features Cole Sipe on bass, Reggie McNeill on keys, Sean Reeseron tenor sax, and Nathan Graybeal on alto sax. Everything Yes is powered by genuine friendship. Their music blends jazz, funk, gospel, progressive rock, and improvisation into a sound that’s energetic, playful, and always evolving. Their live shows feel like a reunion of friends who trust each other enough to take risks and have fun doing it. As they continue touring and building their audience, Everything Yes stays rooted in the same foundation that began it all: creativity, openness, and saying “yes” to the moment.

Raleigh, NC – After a few years on hiatus, Hank Sinatra—the high-octane rock-n-roll racehorse of the North Carolina music scene is officially back in the stable and ready to run. The band has announced a string of upcoming performances featuring a refreshed lineup of Triangle music veterans and a gritty, reinvigorated sound. Fixtures of the “twang-core” scene, Hank Sinatra has spent years blending hard Southern rock with a signature double shot of sarcasm. This return to the stage isn’t just a reunion; it’s a rebirth. On the heels of recent collaborations with the likes of Lenny Kaye and Tan and Sober Gentlemen, the band is set to debut music that fuses their classic edge with an exciting new energy. “There’s a different kind of fire in the room these days,” says founding member Jeff Holshouser. “We’ve taken the time to sharpen the sound, and we’re ready to bring that electricityback.” The current iteration of Hank Sinatra comes fully loaded with a number of the Carolinas top players, bringing together members of some of the region’s most influential acts. Jeffrey Dean Foster is a rugged individualist whose music speaks to the soul and comes from the heart. He’s got a knack for crafting emphatic songs with emotion and steadfast tenacity. It’s a riveting work, and in spite of its brevity, it rings with a rugged resilience that drives the emotions to full flourish. Recorded in lockdown, Foster plays practically all the instruments with production and engineering assistance from Don Dixon and Mitch Easter, among others. So too, with its steady stream of unrepentant rockers, it’s a sturdy reminder of the wealth of reasons why Foster is so deserving of wider recognition.

His songwriting incorporates waltzes, ballads, and old-school rhythms that once formed the backbone of Appalachian dances but have become rare in modern roots music. Songs like "Fool's Gold," "Voices Shot," and "Ballad of the Bondurant Boys" pay tribute to those traditions, while tracks like "Welcome to the Freak Show" serve as a mission statement, reminding us that regardless of background, geography, or circumstance, everyone deserves a seat at the table. The Honeys understand the complexities of contemporary Appalachian life and their music is reflective of such through raw and emotive songs. Both share a lifelong love of acoustic bluegrass guitar music made famous by influential duets Doc and Merle Watson, and Tony Rice and Norman Blake. Keel, Stickley, and other modern flatpickers like Billy Strings grew up studying these legends. These masters were role models who provided inspiration to both Larry and Jon to pursue careers as professional guitar players. Each has gone on to pioneer his own distinct interpretation of the bluegrass artform, as well as fusing genres from roots, jazz, prog, and beyond. Now, Keel and Stickley have themselves become new masters of acoustic guitar. With this act, the two celebrate the pure joy of playing acoustic guitar music as a duo, effortlessly complementing each other’s rhythm and lead playing while never losing their own individual personality. Their sophisticated and awe-inspiring performances suit an array of venues including festival stages, listening rooms, private functions, and nightclubs. At the core of the Keel/Stickley Duo is an intimate conversation between two guitars and voices, done with superior skill and taste, with more than a hint of explosive late-night-jam vibe.

This has never been more true for Copeland on their latest effort Blushing, a collection of 11 new tracks that advance and evolve everything the trio of musicians has done up until now. The band, which originally formed in Lakeland, Florida in 2001, has unveiled six albums, spanning from their 2003’s debut Beneath Medicine Tree to 2016’s Ixora. While they began as a rock band, Copeland’s music has explored multiple genres and pulled in various stylistic influences like electronic and symphonic. Fonville x Fribush features a rotating cast of guitarists both in studio and live in concert, including Charlie Hunter, Alan Good Parker and Morgan Burrs. Songs like “I Couldn’t Love You More” and “Blue Chips” immerse audiences in Atlantic Coast soundscapes of their hometown roots in North Carolina and Virginia. His music comes from a real place, full of true experiences and raw feelings. Anna Mertson is a songwriter from the foothills of North Carolina. Her songs come to life with the love and intention of connecting to others through the inescapable reality of being unapologetically human. Chris Smith is a songwriter who has spent more than a decade working across the music industry. Performing under the name FITUMI, he writes lyric-driven songs that blend sharp storytelling and social commentary, with a healthy disregard for genres. Tyler Millard is half of the husband and wife duo The Ghosts of Liberty. He discovered his love for creating music almost by accident, only picking up the guitar in 2006 as a hobby to pursue as he slowly lost his vision to a degenerative retinal disease. Today, Tyler spends most of his days hacking his way through technology that was never truly designed for the blind in an effort to create music that is simultaneously substantive and catchy.
