Drew Foust &The Wheelhouse with Love, DEAN

etix Drew 506841717796166

A natural soul singer and blues musician, Drew Foust’s music sounds like it’s made between the bleary hours of a rock bar’s last call and a southern preacher’s early morning prayer. Hand made, self-made and arranged in dramatic structure, the music is lyrical and rhythm driven, always pushing a feeling forward.  The Wheelhouse is an amalgamation of some of the best musicians in the piedmont region of North Carolina. Together, Drew and the band lend themselves to heartfelt songwriting with high test grooves, purveying their signature southern soul n’ roll sound. Current members are Jimmy Washington on rhythm guitar, Jared Church on bass, Chuck Pinckney on drums and Cole Covington on keys. The band is known for expanding beyond its core members, having collaborated in studio and on stage with DaShawn & Wendy Hickman, Sam & Eli Fribush, Maia Kamil and Jive Mother Mary. With notable performances at Shakori Hills Festival, Boonerang Music & Arts Festival, and FloydFest 24 in addition to opening for The Wallflowers in Winston-Salem, NC. Drew’s second full-length album, “Good Thing,” released on Charlie Hunter’s SideHustle label in September of 2022, offers 8 tracks inspired by Memphis soul music from the 60s and 70s.Musicians, singer-songwriters, and husband and wife, Rachael and Luke Price, are bringing back the feel-good vibes of classic Americana. Love, DEAN brings a handcrafted musical mosaic of vintage soul, gospel, and folk. Rachael’s stunning vocals and pointed lyrics, along with Luke’s raw harmonies and soul-influenced guitar culminate in undeniable chemistry. With two voices and an old electric hollow-body guitar, they create music that is honest, timeless, yet uniquely new. Love, DEAN’s latest self titled album is themed around love and community, and coming of age milestones. It’s vibrant, personal, and it’s for everyone.

“Funner than eating an ice cream cone!” – Millie Gilkerson  With an orange mustache, golden voice and cherry red Gibson ES-335, National Touring Act and Appalachian Space Funk artist, Jeremy Short has quickly risen to the top shelf of must-hear players on the scene.  Having garnered significant recognition for his masterful, yet seemingly effortless guitar playing “Kentucky’s Jeremy Short is one of the top 30 blues guitar players in the world. Don’t take it from me — take it from the judges at Memphis’s International Blues Challenge, where Short semi-finaled in 2016 and 2017. Short is known for his guitar pyrotechnics and commitment to groove” (No Depression), “Jeremy is one of several slide players that I’d match their skills up against anyone in the world” (Capture Kentucky) “A little bit Marvin Gaye, a little bit Pink Floyd and a little bit Tyler Childers, Jeremy Short’s jam-fueled Appalachian soul music proves that there’s a lot more than country and bluegrass music radiating from the Eastern Kentucky mountains. Short’s epic tales will leave you dancing with jubilation one moment and crying the next. His unique blend of Appalachian soul music is incredibly effective and authentic because Appalachia is such an integral part of his own soul, and always will be.” (Matt Wickstrom) With radio ready hits like “Trance”, “Happy Trees”, and “Rock of Ages”, Short encourages you to forget the stress of life and get lost in his music. “Sometimes, you just gotta dance to get it out. So if you feel like dancing, dance. If you feel like singing along, do it. Do what feels right.”   Short has been touring, singing and playing his guitar for nearly 20 years. Having shared the stage with many notable acts (Tyler Childers, Kingfish, Marcus King, Taj Mahal, Rev Peyton’s Big Damn Band), and notched his belt with festivals like Bonnaroo, Floydfest, Mountain Music Festival, Master Musicians Festival, & Healing Appalachia, the future for Short is looking bright.

Mommyheads and Lemon Sparks

etix Mommyheads 456751719298976

Last year saw The Mommyheads reaching new creative heights with GENIUS KILLER, hailed by Bay Area alternative newsweekly The Bohemian as “a tight, self-assured affair that sounds all the more youthful for its maturity.” CONEY ISLAND KID continues in that tradition, opening with an eclectic suite of technicolor prog-pop that uses archetypal Coney Island imagery to convey themes of desperation and soul-searching, complete with pierside ambience. The skeletal acoustics on “Spookarama”call back to the whimsical woodsy gloom of 1989’s now-classic debut, ACORN, while elsewhere, songs such as the epic title track (arguably the closest the band has come to full-on interpolating Genesis) and the angelic tone poem, “Onset, MA,”see The Mommyheads continue to gracefully channel existential anxiety and progressive influences in equal measure. Having devoted a lifetime to evolution, both in terms of sound and the ever-increasing scope of their ideas, CONEY ISLAND KIDstands as perhaps the most cohesive representation of The Mommyheads’ glorious eccentricities thus far.
